How to add text to a PDF

  1. Open your PDF

Drop it on the page. It opens on your computer.

  2. Click and type

Click where the text should go and type. Choose the size and color in the toolbar; drag a text to move it.

  3. Download

The text is written into the PDF as real, selectable text.

Real text, not an image

What you type is added to the page as actual text in a standard font (Helvetica). It stays sharp at any zoom, can be selected and searched, and prints exactly as it appears on screen.

Typical uses

  • Filling in a "flat" form, one that has boxes on the page but no fillable fields.
  • Adding a date, a reference or "Read and approved" before signing.
  • Writing a note on a plan or a document before sending it back.

To add a handwritten signature as well, switch to Signature in the toolbar or use Sign PDF.

Characters

Text is written in Helvetica, which covers the Latin alphabet including Western European accents (é, ü, ñ, ç, ß…). Characters outside that set, such as Cyrillic or Chinese, are replaced by a question mark.

Questions people ask

Can I edit text that was already in the PDF?

Not with this tool: it adds new text. To remove existing text first, use Remove text from PDF, then add your new text here.

Can I write several lines?

Yes. Press Enter while typing to start a new line.

Is the added text editable later?

Not in pdfanonym once downloaded: it becomes part of the page. Keep your original if you may need changes.
