Watermark ideas
- CONFIDENTIAL or INTERNAL on documents that should not circulate.
- DRAFT on versions that are not final.
- Copy for [recipient] on an ID document or a payslip you send to a landlord or an agency: if it leaks, it is clear where it came from and what it was meant for.
What a watermark does and does not do
A watermark discourages misuse and makes the origin of a copy obvious. It does not stop a determined person with editing software from removing it. For stronger protection, also flatten the file and protect it with a password.
Characters
The watermark uses Helvetica Bold, which covers the Latin alphabet including Western European accents. Other scripts are not supported.
Questions people ask
Is the text behind the watermark still readable?
Yes. The watermark is semi-transparent; set the opacity between 5 % and 60 %.
Can I watermark only some pages?
This tool marks every page. To mark a selection, extract those pages first, watermark them, then merge.
Can I use an image as a watermark?
Not yet: only text watermarks are supported for now.
